</p><p>As <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101121/ap_on_re_us/us_airport_security_backlash">airport outrage grows</a> over the use of body scanners, and the fact you could be <a href="http://www.sun-sentinel.com/business/sfl-airport-scans-pat-downs-refual-20101121,0,5604032.story">fined up to 11,000</a> for refusing to submit, millions of people are asking what airports currently have body scanners.</p>
<p>These are the airports as of Nov. 20th that include body scanners.</p>
<p>Currently, there are 385 advanced imaging technology machines located at 68 airports nationwide. Airports that have the technology include the following.</p>

<p>A University of Colorado study found that &#8216;unfriending&#8217; is quite common. Respondents to this survey say they are either hurt or amused when someone unfriends them &#8212; it all depends on the reason why and who did the &#8216;unfriending.&#8217; The top 3 reasons people &#8216;unfriend,&#8217; read on:</p>

<li><strong>Making Frequent, Unimportant Posts</strong> &#8211; If you are about to post your 100th message about Justin Bieber, you might just be unfriended.</li>
<li><strong>Posting on Polarizing Topics, Such as Politics</strong> &#8211; You might just be unfriended if you post anything about Sarah Palin or Barack Obama.</li>
<li><strong>Posting Crude, Inappropriate or Racists Posts</strong> &#8211; If it&#8217;s not appropriate for your parents to see, don&#8217;t post it.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Keep Your Posts Tame Because Employers Check</strong></p>
<p>Future employers will check your facebook to determine if you are a fit with their company. The same kind of posts that can get you unfriended, also look bad to employers.</p>
<blockquote><p>The study, which questioned 2,667 managers and human resource workers, found that 35 percent of employers decided not to offer a job to a candidate based on the content uncovered on a social networking site.</p></blockquote>

<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-864" title="FaceBook-Logo" src="http://factresource.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/FaceBook-Logo.png" alt="" width="49" height="49" />A <a href="http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/study-facebook-users-are-narcissistic-suffer-from-low-self-esteem/17860">recent study</a> &#8216;found&#8217; that Facebook users are narcissistic and suffer from low self-esteem. This &#8216;study&#8217; was distributed virally, and was even featured on <a href="http://articles.cnn.com/2010-08-30/tech/facebook.narcissism.mashable_1_facebook-social-networking-status-updates?_s=PM:TECH">prominent websites</a>. However, the study has major flaws.</p>
<p>1. The sample size of 100 people is not statistically significant &#8211; <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1310230/Facebook-users-narcissistic-insecure-low-self-esteem.html">Only 100 people</a>. Facebook has a population of 500 million. The <a href="http://www.surveysystem.com/sscalc.htm">sample size calculator</a> reveals a study must include at least 9604 people to be 95% accurate in this case. There is no possible way a study of 100 people could draw sweeping conclusions about Facebook users in general.</p>
<p>2. Even if this study evaluated 9604 people, and found the users to be narcissistic, it doesn&#8217;t really tell us much about &#8216;Facebook users&#8217;. It would, however, tell us something about the general population. This is because <a href="http://en.kioskea.net/news/11805-social-network-use-by-adult-americans-on-the-rise-survey">almost everyone has</a> a Facebook account. It&#8217;s redundant.</p>
<p>3. Lastly, the study&#8217;s big finding &#8211;</p>
<blockquote><p>There was also a difference between men and women – men generally promoted themselves by written posts on their Facebook page while women tended to carefully select the pictures in their profile.</p></blockquote>
<p>&#8211; Isn&#8217;t really surprising. Most guys brag. Most girls want to look beautiful.</p>
<p>Much ado about nothing.</p>

<p>STUDIES SUGGEST you can break out of a slump by simply visualizing success and do not dwell on your past mistakes.</p>
<p>CASE STUDY: Atlanta Braves star pitcher John Smoltz was in a slump in the 1991 baseball season. He won just 2 of 11 games. Then he got some help from a psychologist. He went 12-2. What made the difference? He started watching videos of his best pitches, then recalled those images when he got to the mound, mentally encouraging the feeling of throwing well.</p>
<p>Psychologists think slumps happen as a result of a chain reaction. Someone has a couple of bad events. They begin to question themselves. They begin to over-think. They lose overall self-esteem.</p>
<p>The same principle also applies to the workplace, home and school.</p>
<p>DEVELOP RITUALS</p>
<p>Of great importance is to develop rituals to keep you in a positive state of mind. One psychologist recommends carrying a laminated card that evokes feelings of success. When negative thoughts enter your mind that question your ability, you should pull the card out immediately to stop this behavior.</p>

<blockquote><p>I use the STOP and THINK approach. When my thoughts turn negative, I stop what i&#8217;m doing and ask myself: What do my negative thoughts look like. Are they hot, cold, etc&#8230; In just a few seconds of asking these questions, the negative thoughts disappear and it makes it very easy to change my thinking. If I&#8217;m having trouble concentrating, I do the same thing. I begin to ask myself what does my lack of concentration look like. For some odd reason, just asking this question makes them go away &#8212; making it very easy to recall past successes or past times I had a very easy time concentrating. When I think about the times I&#8217;ve been hyper-focused, it makes it a lot easier to focus on the very important.</p></blockquote>
<p>Remember, it&#8217;s okay for negative thoughts to enter your mind. It&#8217;s not okay to entertain those thoughts if success is what you&#8217;re after. &#8220;Instead, you remember all the other parts of yourself that are strong.&#8221;</p>

<p>In a Harvard Business Review blog post, a speed reading expert was asked what speed reading tips he gives his nephews, he said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I would see them doing some dense reading such as chapters in a history or science textbook, and would I say: &#8220;When you get to the exam in a month or two, what do you want to remember from this chapter? After reading this chapter, please write no more than the one or two paragraphs you want to remember for the exam. Then go back and see how you could read more efficiently to obtain that paragraph or two.&#8221;</p>
<p>One of the reasons why some people are slow readers is that they&#8217;re reading every word. Instead, they should read the introduction, the conclusions and the tops of the paragraphs to determine if that part of the chapter is really important for them.</p>
<p>But you&#8217;ve got to know what you&#8217;re reading for. Are you reading for certain facts? Are you reading for new analysis? Are you reading for the author&#8217;s general themes or the specific support for these themes? <a href="http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2010/10/the_importance_of_knowing_what.html">¹</a></p></blockquote>
<p>For most people, it takes a leap of faith to speed read because they are afraid they are going to miss something if they do not fully internalize every single word.</p>
<p>However, reading using this style, may make it harder for you to grasp the overall theme of your book/article/chapter. That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s crucial to understand your main purpose for reading. When you have a central purpose as your guide, you&#8217;ll have a greater focus as you glance over pages. In fact, most people increase their comprehension when they learn this principle.</p>

<p>BOTTOM LINE: In a recent survey, 77% of people were living paycheck-to-paycheck. This is a sharp increase from 2009. In addition, this survey found:</p>
<p>Workers report they have made a variety of changes to their living and spending habits to help get by. When asked what tactics they have used since the start of the recession to make ends meet, workers said the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>Cut back on leisure activities &#8211; 54 percent</li>
<li>Used coupons or shopped at discount stores &#8211; 48 percent</li>
<li>Drove less to save on gas &#8211; 37 percent</li>
<li>Cancelled cable and other subscriptions &#8211; 12 percent</li>
<li>Used public transportation &#8211; 5 percent</li>
</ul>
<h6>From Kiplinger Magazine:</h6>
<blockquote><p>Nearly four of every five workers surveyed by the site say they are struggling to make ends meet &#8211; and the proportion of workers living paycheck to paycheck has only risen in the past year. In 2009, CareerBuilder found, 61 percent of people were going from one paycheck to another; now, 77 percent are.</p>
<p>A significant number of people are taking drastic steps to shore up their personal finances, as well. More than 20 percent of CareerBuilder&#8217;s 4,498 survey respondents admitted to dipping into retirement savings &#8211; even though money taken from a retirement account can be subject to both taxes and early-withdrawal penalties.</p></blockquote>

<p>This survey was conducted online within the U.S. by Harris Interactive(C) on behalf of CareerBuilder.com among 2,534 U.S. hiring managers and 4,498 U.S. workers (employed full-time; not self-employed; non government); ages 18 and over between May 18 and June 3, 2010 (percentages for some questions are based on a subset of U.S. employers and/or employees, based on their responses to certain questions). With a pure probability sample of 2,534 and 4,498 one could say with a 95 percent probability that the overall results have a sampling error of +/- 1.95 and +/-1.46 percentage points, respectively. Sampling error for data from sub-samples is higher and varies.</p>

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Bottom Line:</span> There are certain periods where you have a better chance at getting a good deal. However, there is no golden rule for every single car buyer. In addition, there are also pitfalls to buying during certain time periods.</p>
<p><strong>Here&#8217;s why:</strong></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">END OF MONTH DEALER CLEARNCE:</span> Rumor has it that you should wait until the end of the month. The reason is that car dealers/salesmen need to make sales goals. They cut prices at the end of the month to meet those sales goals.</p>
<p>The truth is many people believe this is true. Therefore, more people run to the dealership at this time. Since there are more people at this time, the demand for cars increase. When demand is higher than supply, you get higher prices. Waiting until the end of the month may not yield the best price, but may increase prices. Studies on car buying during the end of the month show there is no significant difference.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">OVERSTOCK:</span> Rumor has it that you should wait just before the new models arrive. The reason is that car dealers need to make make room new arrivals. In order to make room, they cut prices for new arrivals.</p>
<p>This is a half truth. Car prices are set by supply and demand. If the projected demand is high enough, the dealer will not discount prices even if they have hundreds of a specific car model on the lot. This is because car dealers know they are going to sell these cars regardless of the current inventory status. Overstock sales are typically reserved for Labor Day, right before next year models arrive.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">LABOR DAY DEALS:</span> Many people say Labor Day is the single best day to purchase a new car. The reason is that car dealers know people have a free day to spend at the car dealership. Also, Labor Day is just before next the arrival of next year&#8217;s car models.  So, dealers want to unload their surplus inventory.</p>
<p>This is a half truth.  For the majority of cars, dealers offer better incentives during Labor Day.</p>
<p>However, you should remember that cars purchased during Labor Day are essentially a year old. This means your car has already depreciated a year before you drive it off the lot. New cars purchased around Labor Day &#8212; will lose more value the second you drive it off the lot &#8212; than if you purchased the car the week the model came out. This is because the value of the car depreciates faster than the average car dealer lowers prices. (Taking the hit on a year-long depreciation cost surpasses even the most generous Labor Day deal).</p>
<p>If you plan on keeping your car for more than six or more years, you should buy during Labor Day. Otherwise, it makes sense to buy when the new model first appears in the showrooms.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">DECEMBER DEALS:</span> Some people say December is the best time to buy a car because dealers want to unload inventory to avoid taxes carried over to the new year. This is false. In fact, car purchasing data suggests the average car price is $400.00 more during December than September. Do not buy a car in December because you think you will get the best deal.</p>
